She's Nearly Gone!!!
The Riverdance Ferry is
almost fully removed from the sea. Her starboard is now the only part
remaining, but as it lies under the sea it's not that simple to get to
and clear away. The work force go out at
roughly 4a.m. (depending on the tide times as they do change
daily) to start working on her. They get between 2 and 4 hours a
morning to work before the tide cuts them off again. It takes an hour
and a half to pump out the excess water and remove the sand that has
buried her since they last got to work on her. If they're lucky they
then get another hour and a half to dig the last parts of her out. Then
the tide comes back in, covers her again with sand and water until the
next day when it's back to square one and start it all again!! It is
thought that this will take another couple of weeks to remove it all.
A
massive operation saw her cut up into manageable sized pieces to be
taken from the shore line bit by bit. My video below shows her in the
sea in February this year, the day after she had been stranded at
Cleveleys. I put it on You Tube and it's had over 18,000 hits in
total!!
She's been such a massive tourist attraction to Cleveleys, Blackpool
and Fleetwood. When it first happened you couldn't get near her to have
a look, with all the cars blocking the streets. After a couple of days
and a bit of looting she was given round the clock security for
everyones' safety really. People were actually stood beneath her when
the tide was out as you could walk all round her with no regard for
their own safety.
The Riverdance Ferry
There were
various attempts to re float her but sadly nothing worked, so the
decision was made to cut her up and remove her in that way. She'd had
such a battering from the sea in the bad weather for a long period of
time, that by then she wouldn't be able to function properly. It's
quite
a sad end really, but she did look sad lying there anyway.
